Light Guide Panels
FAQs
A light guide panel or light guide plate is a cut acrylic sheet is used to distribute light evenly in a sign, display, wall or window fixture, or other design element.
Without light guide panels, light can appear erratically within a fixture – leading to hot spots or dark spots. Light guide panels distribute the light evenly, creating a cleaner, attractive appearance.
Light guide panels use a similar principle as most modern TV and computer screens. LED lights are placed around the perimeter of the panel, pointing inward. The light guide panel distributes the light, so that the center of the fixture has the same brightness as the edges, which are closer to the light source.
Light guide panels are made by using a laser to etch small dots into a sheet of acrylic. The placement and spacing of the dots can be adjusted to achieve the desired brightness or depth of the finished piece. And the brightness, color and warmth of the light can be easily controlled.
Light guide panels are commonly used in a variety of applications, such as signs, block letters, wall panels, window frames, retail displays, brand walls, SEG frames and other design features.
No problem. By applying heat, acrylic light guide panels can be thermoformed to achieve a desired shape. The lighting and even distribution will still work the same way.
Yes. Light guide panels usually use energy efficient LED lights, which are considerably more sustainable than incandescent, halogen, neon or other light sources.
Light guide panels can also be made from Recrylic® – the world’s only line of certified recycled acrylic. Recrylic looks, performs and costs the same as virgin cast acrylic – but reduces carbon emissions by 90%. Learn more at Recrylic.com
Definitely. By using different types of LED lights, filters, diffusers and the laser-dot pattern itself, lighting can be easily controlled. We can also set up timers on the lights to add motion and interest to a given fixture.
Light guide panels are relatively low maintenance and long lasting. All of our LED projects are UL certified and come with a 3-year warranty.
